| - I like this place. Got the jerk chicken with rice and beans, while my boyfriend got the goat curry, also with rice and beans. Rice and beans was the only side option available when we came in.
The jerk chicken really kicked my ass. It's spicy, which is not entirely something I am used to, but not afraid to try. The hotness, though, is more in the sauce and preparations on the skin. On working my way through it, the chicken was nice and tender.
To even out what I was sure would be a tongue-igniting meal, I got one of those empanada-like beef patties that are sold individually on the counter. It was sort of bland with a very mild flavoring from the meat and beans within the crust.
There are a few things that might concern first-time diners:
- The menu is different each day with only 4 or 5 menu items available at one time as it's all pre-made in the kitchen. You are fairly limited in this regard. While they offer several side options, only one was available during our visit.
- There are no prices posted on the menu. The goat curry with a drink grabbed from the refrigerator came out to $13. My jerk chicken plus pattie and bottle soda was over $15.
- Some menu items, like the goat curry, are heavily comprised of bones that need to be picked out. While this wasn't a deal-breaker, and you still get a good amount of meat, some might be exasperated by the mere presence of them in their food.
Overall, my experience was positive, and I'm glad I tried it.
