| - I am a Pitt student who dined in at Mongolian Grill. Long story short: I would have rather gotten stir-fry from the university's dining hall, Market Central. If you're not a student it costs $13 and it's all you can eat and so much better than Mongolian Grill, which is saying A LOT.
There were a number of issues with my experience at Mongolian Grill:
1. The stir-fried rice was crunchy. Seriously, I felt like I was eating burnt Rice Krispies cereal. It was so bad that I did not get the unlimited bowl, however, others in my party did just because they could not eat their first. Moral: avoid the rice.
2. The waitress was somewhat incompetent. She forgot to bring us our sides of rice until we were halfway through our meals, and then charged me for the wrong (and more expensive) dessert, and refused to change it.
3. The soup and salad bar were awful. The soup had separated, so there was grease and oil on the top, and there were bacon bits in the bins that had fruit and other salad toppings. I feel bad for any vegetarian or vegan trying to enjoy a meal here.
4. The manager is sketchy. After speaking to him about being over charged, he offered to give me free meal coupons (uh, not after that food!). Once I refused, he offered to mail me cash... Isn't that illegal? Despite me paying with a credit card, he said he could not refund me, which makes no sense.
I rarely leave bad reviews but after the disrespect I faced from the manager, I felt no other choice. I am a foodie who doesn't mind spending money on food, but I truly regret spending $20 at this establishment. You're better off going to the Cheesecake Factory across the street. Seriously.
