| - I'm becoming one of those people who looks for places to work out while traveling, so when I was heading to Madison for Thanksgiving I figured I'd poke around and see what kind of yoga classes would be offered for the day after Thanksgiving.
Madison, as it turns out, is big into hot yoga. I am not, so that eliminated pretty much every studio except for this one. I went to the "Happy Hour" mixed levels yoga class, and it was exactly what I needed after gorging myself the day before.
The space is quite large, which is good because this class was huge. There were at least 30-40 people there, easily. I have a love/hate relationship with large classes. Personally, I don't care how many people are in a class with me. I've been practicing yoga for three years now, so I can follow along and modify as I go without instruction.
What does worry me about large classes is that the instructor simply can't get to everyone and fix their postures. I saw far too many people doing poses in a way that is guaranteed to cause injury in the near future. I saw far too many people trying to do advanced versions of poses when they couldn't do the original pose. I'd be so concerned about people injuring themselves if I were the instructor, especially since a mixed levels class usually attracts a fair number of beginners.
The instructor did her best and moved around the room as much as possible, and her vinyasa sequence was well done. I'd go back here the next time I'm in Madison, even if it is a little pricier at $17 per class.
