Going to the dentist. Often a dreaded experience, regardless of dental hygiene.
For the most part, my dental visits are uneventful. I check in every six months to get any stray bits of tarter chiseled off my grill, my pearly whites are polished up to look pearly again, then I collect my complimentary toothbrush and floss and I'm on my way.
My visit last night was a bit more involved as I had to switch out a number of fillings that have rested peaceful in my teeth since around 1985 (back in the day when My Little Ponies were my reward for a good visit). Having 4 fillings removed and replaced in one sitting was a trying experience for this self-proclaimed dental wimp. However, the whole ordeal was subdued with the calming encouragement of my dentist and hygienist. The noise of the dental tools usually amplifies my anxiety but upon hearing this, my dentist actually suggested bringing in an iPod on my next trip to block out unpleasant sounds. Brilliant.
