I've been an MC fan since the very beginning. She's talented and has a great ear for catchy hooks. I saw her perform once in the early 90s at the B96 (radio station) Summer Bash and I wasn't that impressed. All she did was stand at the mic and sing so I never bothered to see her in concert again. On a whim, I decided to see her again while I was in Vegas.
Before going into the theatre I stopped in the gift shop. The merchandise selection wasn't great so I didn't buy anything. I liked the merchandise for Celine better honestly. It seemed to me that there wasn't much care taken with the merchandise selection.
Mariah sang most of most popular songs in her catalog or at least mini versions of them. I was concerned that she wouldn't sound good but she actually sounded ok. It wasn't the Mariah from the early 90s but it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. I WAS entertained but the show pretty much was what I expected which isn't saying much. Mariah waltzed on stage like the diva she thinks that she is without a care in the world. You could tell that minimal effort was put into the show (in comparison to say, Jennifer Lopez) because Mariah really just walked around and sang. There were no elaborate sets or big dance numbers. But I guess that's just Mariah. She dressed up in her skimpy outfits, styled her hair big and did her thing. It was entertaining for what it was... Would I see her again? No. Would I recommend her show? Umm, probably not. Maybe if you're a diehard fan. It was an experience but if I had to do it over again I'd probably skip it. It wasn't the worst show I've ever seen but it also wasn't very memorable.
If I had to guess I'd say she did the Vegas show for the money and as a way to stay relevant. I hope she'll get married, stay home and raise her twins.
