Whenever I travel I like to find a local bookstore to hang out in and give business for the day.
Poisoned Pen was my choice while in Scottsdale, AZ.
I love everything about this place - the signed books, the events, their own publisher, it's all so nice!
The only reason this isn't getting a 5 star review is because of the employees I encountered.
One man was behind the counter at the computer when a woman came in and asked a bunch of questions and was met with one-word answers/disinterest. He barely looked up from the computer as she was talking to him. After a few questions with waning interest on his part, she ended with - "What mystery book have you read lately and enjoyed?" Him - " I don't know." .
Come one, Dude, you couldn't have directed her to the best sellers or the employee recommendation rack? Or if you were busy simply stated that you would be with her in a minute and given her the attention she deserved?
The cashier I had was awesome though, she told me about the sequel coming out to the book I was getting and to stay for a while as they were having a party for the bookstore's birthday. I couldn't as I had dinner plans, but the events they have look pretty great.
Overall this place was awesome! I joined their newsletter and can't wait to do business with them in the future.
