  • Dr. Shin is the best of the best for cataract surgery. I know this because despite my multiple eye problems, I am able to drive without glasses, which considering all my eye problems, is little short of a miracle. Dr Shin uses state of the art Catalys machinery. Most importantly, her technicians are absolutely fanatical about getting accurate measurements to get as close to 20/20 after implants are installed. It's common for her to get patients from other eye doctors who should have obtained 20/20 with implants, but due to inaccurate measurements do not. Her no-compromise approach requires multiple appointments and comparison of eye measurement results. The average cataract doctor, on the other hand, does not take this painstaking effort, with the result being predictably less than 20/20 for problem eyes like mine. Not only are her cataract results outstanding, but she does a brilliant job on those with crossed eyes, which is not an easy operation at all, as I can attest. Moreover, her attention to detail caused her to send me to a retina specialist to address a subtle change in a damaged eye and leading to ongoing treatment by the retina MD. I see many complaining about how long it takes in her office. PLEASE understand this is a result of her policy of getting accurate measurements, no matter how long or no matter how many times it takes! It is also the result of the fact that she's the best eye-cross surgeon in the region, the specialist to whom other doctors send their problem patients, such as myself. Realize long wait times in her office result from those patients who are young children who cannot be examined by normal means and take considerably longer. These little children can bring the schedule to a grinding halt. I'm saying, she's brilliant and she's able to handle eyes with multiple problems such as mine. She's part of a group of eye doctors trained at UCLA who can deliver the very best eye care in the country. Your patience will certainly be rewarded if you understand how good she and her staff are. Her motives are not at all financial, considering how long she and her staff typically spend with her patients. Bottom line, if you want the best cataract or eye-cross, or general eye doctor in the region, I suggest you bring a book and relax and wait for however long it takes.
