  • I think this will be the longest review I've ever left for any restaurant (yet)! So bear with me please :-) We went to St. Francis for the first time today instead of our weekend routine "Flower Child" treat. Mainly just to try something new. And here is what we ordered and my experience: 1) arrived at 5 so the Happy Hour was on, so I first started with a Pinot Noir. For $5, it was a great wine. I would call it a happy, young, fruity wine with a bit of a sour finish. Later on I ordered a glass of their Merlot and regretted big time (but I hope you don't make my mistake unless you're heavily invested in Merlot wines). Also their wines came out a bit warmer than what it should since they keep them outside (see one of the pics). 2) for the starter, we ordered a Romaine Heart Salad and potato leak soup. Both were excellent (A). 3) for Entrees, we ordered a French Onion Burger, a Forbidden Rice Bowl, and a Moroccan Meatballs and here is my opinion about each dish: The Burger (B-): it was an Ok burger. I had it medium well and in my first bite I sensed a rush of a fatty after taste in my mouth. The one you would usually get at lower quality restaurants with high fat% beef. I was disappointed. My wife asked if I want to change it but I was already 40% through. She asked to try a bite and as soon as she had one bite she said the same thing but she said the fatty after taste might be from the cheese and not the beef and she was right! I enjoyed my burger much more after I shaved off the cheese. I shared this as a feedback with the waitress and hope they address it cuz it would have otherwise been a solid B+ burger...anyway let's move on. Shall we? The Moroccan Meatballs (B): overall, it was good but in my opinion it was too cuminny (too much Cumin). The cumin flavor was too dominant that it faded out all the other goodness. The Forbidden Rice Bowl, with Shrimp (A-): this dish, as my grading suggests, was the best dish over the three that we ordered tonight. The rice was a bit spicy and the vegetables were delicious. The only reason I did not give this dish an "A" was that the shrimp was over cooked. 4) for the desert, we ordered the chocolate cake with coffee ice cream (B-). The frosting was too sweet and dense, the cake itself was OK and the ice cream was also too sweet for me. This doesn't mean this would be too sweet for you as well because over the years I've realized that most people like their deserts to be at least twice as sweet as the way I like mine. So if you're one of those most people, and you've made it through my long review, go for it and bon appetit. Overall (B+): definitely happy we've decided to try St. Francis. The ambient was excellent, and food and service was good. Bill was under $100 (with tip) which is not bad for how much food and drinks we ordered.
