RATING AS A VISITOR:
If you're visiting a patient, make sure to set aside some time to tour this intriguing and lovely place. It's a beautiful building that's well maintained without the usual strong odors (bodily nor industrial), maybe because there wasn't too many patients nor visitors around.
On the main floor next to the west terrace you can find the Max Tannenbaum Sculpture Garden which has 20 vibrantly colored sculptures that depict the human body in graceful yet powerful poses (see my many pictures).
There are a couple terraces on the 5th floor as well, one of which has a beautiful view of the Don River. They also have a rooftop garden where you can sit and relax. From this vantage point you can view East Chinatown, Lake Ontario and even the towering buildings of Downtown. It was so quiet that all I could hear was a chorus of chirping crickets, relaxing indeed!.
TIPS:
-Don't forget to check out the Old Don Jail next door which has been converted and now houses the administrative offices of the hospital. There is a free self guided tour that you can take of the facility.
- Have lunch at the park next door.
- Visit the Zhong Hua Men Archway (https://www.yelp.com/biz/zhong-hua-men-archway-toronto?hrid=z6XzYjdZols3-WNaFnDjdQ&utm_source=ashare&ref=yelp-android) and East Chinatown which is only a few steps away.
