I grew up with quite a few close Indian friends, and therefore had my share of outstanding Indian home cooking. I have been afraid of the Indian restaurants in Arizona, because they either seem dirty or soulless, usually both. Taj Mahal seemed like it was going to fit this bill, but my Indian cravings got the better of me and I gave it a shot. Now it is one of my favorite restaurants around. I love it because the food is really good, and the owner Jazz and the regular staff make you feel like you are in their home. My favorite dishes here are the mali kofta and the mushroom korma. Usually I go for garlic naan at Indian restaurants, but here I like the roti, and they always put garlic on it for me even though it's not a menu item. It's a great place for large groups, because of the large dining area. It also allows you to sample more dishes.
