| - I recently purchased a 2013 Escape from John Lance Ford after getting in an accident and totaling my car. I sought out the Escape I wanted online and went to take a look in person, not expecting to buy the vehicle. Denise was our salesperson and was very kind. She didn't pressure us whatsoever and was very informative. After taking a test drive, I decided to buy the vehicle. This is when things started to get a little shady. After Denise had pulled interest rates for us, we were escorted to the back by the finance guy Patrick.
Our first impression indicated that we were about to endure an uncomfortable hour. Patrick made a comment that we were dressed "awfully comfortable" for the occasion because we were wearing sweatpants and hoodies. I wasn't aware that I was supposed to put on my stillettos and best sequined dress while browsing for cars... in February... in Cleveland, Ohio. Our interactions only got more awkward from then on out. Per usual we were offered additional warranties. My husband and I listened to and declined these offers and stated that we wanted to stick with the extended warranty we were given. Patrick asked why and we explained that my father is a mechanic and does all of our car maintenance. This apparently was not good enough for know-it-all Patrick. He asked if we've had a new car worked on lately, and that no neighborhood mechanic would have the skills to fix a car with recent technology. Of course he threw a "no offense" in there, as if we would not be offended that he just openly bashed my father, having zero knowledge of his expertise or background. He continued to push the warranties and kept throwing out figures, trying to trick us by offering lower monthly payments that we would make for only a "few" more months than we had planned. My husband continued to politely decline. Patrick asked why in the world we wouldn't want to lower our monthly payment, stating that we were crazy. My husband kindly said "because even though we will have smaller payments, we will be making more payments and all in all spending thousands on a warranty that we don't want." After this, Patrick got defensive and said "Well who will be the primary driver of the vehicle?", knowing full and well that it would be me and not my husband (we had already told him this shortly after he gave us a verbal warning as the Fashion Police). I stated that it would be me and he said "well what do YOU think about it?" At this point, I was so annoyed that I almost got up and walked out carless. My husband and I exchanged looks of understanding and out of his true character, he had to loudly and firmly say (for the 400th time) that we were absolutely NOT interested. Patrick accused my husband of being aggressive even though he had done nothing but raise his voice to be heard. However, he finally quit hassling us and finished our paper work without saying anything more than "I need your signature on this line."
Over all, I would still consider our experience at John Lance Ford a good one. My car is perfect and it's everything I wanted! Denise was very thorough, kind and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend buying a car from her. Be prepared to get bombarded with warranties and bring your boxing gloves in case you have a run-in with Patrick.
