  • Stopped by the Sweet Escape while walking one evening in the distillery district. We just wanted dessert and a cup of coffee...and they seemed to be the only place still open at the time. Nice to see the window where all the back end baking happens...they were clean and organized. I was looking forward to trying their cupcakes and tarts. We got a couple of cupcakes, strawberry and chocolate, and a chocolate tart. The cupcakes were very dry and hard. I actually returned one of the cupcakes because I could not eat it. The server was nice enough and noted that the cupcakes were baked fresh. The tart was chocolaty and a good pairing with my coffee. The pastries, including the cupcakes, were in a refrigerated case. If the cupcake bread was made with butter it could explain the dryness. Overall, Sweet Escape is not why I would go back to the Distillery District.
