  • Caesar's is the Palace of Entertainment on the Las Vegas Strip. On the night of Sunday, March 20; I came to the Palace to see a King perform. The Living Legend Rod Stewart is truly a King. His accolades include being a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recipient, selling over 200 million albums, and hits spanning from "Maggie Mae" in 1971 to the recent remakes. I could go over the character limit discussing his songs, so I'll review the concert. Rod Stewart performs in the Colosseum at Caesar's Palace. This is where the legends come to play. It was here that I saw Stevie Nick's, Shania Twain, and now Rod Stewart. Before I talk about my experience, I am going to turn the Review over to Rod Stewart himself. The following is an excerpt from part of paragraph 2 on page 360 of Rod Stewart: The Autobiography. "In this case a residency means twenty-six nights a year in a 4,100-seat concert venue that is probably the best room I've ever played in: superb acoustics, and a lovely low stage, so you feel really close to the audience. And me and the tightest band I've had in all my years on the road turn out some roistering versions of the hits, and I kick a few footballs out at some point and go walk about among the floor seats and in the if the fancy takes me. It's a party. " Thank you Rod Stewart. You summarized the experience well. Now I'll take over. As Rod Stewart said, the venue has superb acoustics and a low stage. I would describe it as intimate. There isn't a bad seat in the house. We sat up on the second mezzanine. From the upper levels, I could clearly see the 90 minute concert. There was also a large screen showing the concert. The thing about the concert is that it was Rod Stewart and a very talented band. Whenever Rod Stewart took a break the band would take charge with awesome solos. My favorite was the sax solo on "Downtown Train." Just the general musicianship was incredible. The greatest musical moments were the violins harping away on "It's a Heartache" and the harpsichord on "The First Cut is the Deepest." These musicians were a major part of the show. When I watched Rod Stewart perform it left me with optimism about aging because it seems that today 70 years old is being 40 yesterday. Rod went through a few wardrobe changes that reflected the different moods of songs. My favorite songs were: "Tonight's the Night," "Do ya think I'm Sexy, "" Maggie Mae, "Have I Told You Lately, " and "Some Guys Have all the Luck." All of the 16 plus songs were remarkable. Rod Stewart's voice is forever young. Rod Stewart interacted with the audience. There were a couple of jokes and introductions. Toward the end of the show, the interactions reached a crescendo. Performing "Maggie Mae" he walked along a row of the lower level seats. During another hit, he kicked soccer balls into the audience. Rod also mellowed out for an acoustic set. At the end of the show the ceiling released several balloons. Rod Stewart :The Hits was a blockbuster show. I am glad that I got to see Rod Stewart because you never know if they'll be another chance. Below are pictures I took of the show, Tix, & excerpt from Rod's Autobiography:
