| - I don't usually complain, but in this case I must.
This was my first time visiting Crocodile Rock, I have only heard okay or bad reviews; the major selling point is its roof top patio.
I showed up with my friend -- not a host in sight. For a location this size, I found it surprising, but as it is a bar, that wasn't a big deal. There were a couple of security guards roaming around, randomly checking IDs; this really set the tone for what ensued.
Once my friend and I found a table, it took the server at least 20 mins to approach us. When our other friends joined us, our server asked us if we were going to be splitting our bills, we said yes. Then she asked if we wanted to start a tab. I complied to make things less awkward. I suppose that there might be a dine-and-dash issue there, so although this has never been requested of me I went along with it,
After I ordered my second round, a bottle of Rickard's White, the server brought a gin and tonic.I didn't notice at first because I was having a conversation. Once she came back to our table, I brought it to her attention. She took the drink back, then came back with the beer and essentially said that next time I should tell her right away. I found this confusing, as I thought that was her job and I have no intention of ever being served by her again.
Most of our food showed up -- all standard bar-food grub. One of my friend's sweet potato fries took a long time to arrive. She mentioned this to the server and within minutes she brought out a basket of regular fries, my friend immediately noted that she had actually ordered sweet potato fries, so she had to wait even longer for her app to arrive. When it came, I honestly feel like it may have been tampered with; as the server likely framed us as "difficult" patrons.
When it was time to pay, one of my friends noted that she would like to have her change and the server looked at her and said "that's what I'm working on" in quite a rude tone. I get it, you're having a bad day, but be cordial, geeze.
At any rate, even in the 10 degree weather, the patio was great. The food was exactly what we expected. The drinks were standard. Our server wasn't great, I assume she was having a bad day, or maybe that's just what she's like-- no idea. I likely won't be back, there are so many fantastic patios in Toronto.
