I think Montreal's bagel wars are going to heat up now.
Mile End has always had Fairmount Bagel and St.Viateur but it looks like the increasingly popular "Le Sud-Ouest" is starting to play catch-up. With Bagel St-Lo in Verdun and now Ville Emard Bagels, it looks like there's more options now for those of us who don't live in the Mile End neighborhood.
I was quite pleased to discover this place by chance yesterday and immediately got a mix of plain, sesame seed, onion and all-dressed bagels. Folks, this are as good as any other bagel you'll find in Mile End, plus they also offer coffee, bagel sandwiches, toasted bagels with Nutella and other traditionally Jewish foodstuffs like knishes (spinach or potato). Plus they make their bagels in a traditional wood-fire burning stove. If you cannot make it up to the Mile End but you're near Monk metro, you can easily drop by and pick up a few. A dozen fresh-out-of-the-stove bagels will set you back less than $8 bucks.
Very happy to see this addition to this 'hood!
