| - An update on my review:
I bumped up the rating from one star to three because I got a call from Shan Larson who is the director of Pep Boys for the state of Nevada and offered to refund my diagnostic charge in full. I appreciate this issue being resolved more than I can put into words!!! I feel like I was heard and taken seriously, and with all the challenges I've had with car shops my whole driving life, this is by far the best way an issue has been handled. It is so important for shops to take the time to EXPLAIN to and EDUCATE their customers on what the issue is with their vehicle for many reasons. One being because there will be customers who can understand and recite things as challenging as cellular respiration, so just because they look like they won't understand mechanics, might want to think again because they'll figure it out if the shop won't. So IF ANYONE HAS EVER BEEN ACCELERATING AND YOUR CAR SUDDENLY WON'T ACCELERATE ANYMORE, it is a possibility that the timing belt and water pump gave it their last breathe which will likely lead to BENT VALVES which for a 4 cylinder can be up to 16 VALVES and will run you around $13 a piece!!! Don't forget about the head bolts and head gasket you'll need to replace too because the shop will need to take the head off to get to the valves!! Hopefully Pep Boys will be filling their customers in on this shit after they allegedly DIAGNOSE your car. And make sure your shop does a compression test to see just how many valves are fucked. If I had one wish for all car shops, it would be that they educate their customers even if you think they won't understand. Show them the part that's fucked if you can! Big G showed me how shredded my timing belt was AND informed me that more parts were messed up. The fact the shop took the time to explain and educate is so admirable in so many ways. Last thing a customer wants is the impression that a mechanic is dishonest with them.
(Original review): My timing belt snapped on my way to work this morning. My towing experience was 5 stars, my pep boys experience was horrendous. I told them my timing belt was snapped and my water pump needed to be replaced, but they insisted they still check anyway. Granted I have to assume that they profile their customers especially if they're white females in a rush to get to work. They proceeded to quote me a price of $1,020 for their services. A timing belt/water pump kit is 80 fucking dollars, and they wanted to charge me damn near $1,000 for labor. They can go choke on a big fat you know what for a quote like that, but they probably won't make as much money doing that as they would scamming people who they think don't know anything about cars and are in a rush to get the job done. Please go see Big G for a service like this!! He knows a guy who charges very little for towing too, $65 for towing your car 20mi across town. He's also going to charge half the price for the service i need. Happy 2018 y'all. Screw you Pep Boys you're a fucking joke and you're ROBBING PEOPLE. Did I mention the "diagnostic" was $100?!?!? ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO TELL ME I WAS RIGHT. GO FUCK YOURSELF PEP BOYS.
