Even though my visit to this veterinary clinic was in July of 2012 and since have moved away. I have been so upset with their unkind and unprofessional attitude that I wanted to share it with unsuspecting people that want the best care possible for their family pets.
It was on a hot July Sunday that I found a stray kitten in my front yard with a broken leg. I took him inside and rushed to find a nearby vet that was open by my house. I got there 15 minutes before they closed, I didn't want the kitten to suffer if something could be done. The receptionist at the time was so upset that I was there before they closed that she grabbed the paperwork to where it was crumbled and handed it to me to fill out and all the time that I was there was showing how unprofessional she was.
After the vet looked at the kitten she took him to get x-rayed. She brought him out and showed me what was wrong. She said that she couldn't operate him but referred me to someone that would charge me over $1,000 but she said that she could amputate his leg for about $800. I didn't want to amputate his leg even though he was a stray. The visit was costly which also included some pain medication for him while I could take him somewhere else. Since this was an unexpected expense, I asked the vet if they had some finance payment plan to which she said no. While I was paying I heard the vet tell her assistant that I had asked about a finance plan and that they weren't a charity. I was stunned of how strange and callous she was to say that in my presence. I wasn't sure if it was because I was of Mexican descent that she could be so bold to put me down or did I offend her.
I never went back. A friend told me about Dr. Hunter at Catalina Animal Hospital, who was in Phoenix and was a ways away from where I lived. He not only showed concern about the kitten's leg which he could operate on but he gave me an affordable price for the operation because his assistant said that it was because he appreciated the fact that I was willing to spend so much on a stray. Though I left town, I really admired Dr. Hunter's kindness and wished he could have stayed my vet. He's a true advocate for the humane treatment of animals. By the way, the kitten became an addition to my family.
