| - Waltzed in on a late weeknight partially due to curiosity, but mainly due to hunger. During my brief month living in Las Vegas/Henderson, I'd driven past Barley's quite a few times but never actually mustered the courage to get inside.
The house-brewed beer, while not ready for any beer competitions anytime soon, is still dependably consistent and tasty. They mainly serve their own brews (and you get a small discount for playing the video poker, hehe) with a handful of other taps and bottles. My personal favorite this particular evening was their red ale.
The kind server behind the video poker bar recommended the burgers to me -- so I ordered the one with blue cheese and mushrooms, along with a side of fries. The prices here are so reasonable and the portions are just right, so I didn't feel guilty at all popping in the occasional dollar or two into my video poker machine :)
At the end of my meal I realized I wasn't exactly 'of sound mind and body' enough to drive, so in order to sober up I ordered up some deep fried Oreos with vanilla ice cream. PERFECTION. Hot, thickly battered, lightly dusted with powdered sugar, absolutely lovely. Add to that some outstanding banter with groups of locals young and old, and some fun conversation with a number of employees, and you have Barley's.
I was here late at night -- closer to midnight, granted, where there were possibly at the most about 4-5 different parties in the entire establishment, as opposed to the jam-packed Sunday afternoons I'd witnessed prior -- so maybe the timing of my experience has something to do with it. But I highly recommend Barley's food and beer, and just thinking of everybody's friendly attitude and hearty laughter puts a gigantic smile on my face :)
