The building is poured concrete. The room has a concrete floor and a concrete ceiling. The place smells like fresh concrete. The water tastes like rotten eggs (okay, it is Madison). The staff is friendly and clueless (college students?). No fitness room but they gave me a pass to a gym a couple miles away. Bizarro shower (with the requisite concrete floor).
The restaurant staff is really interested in talking to each other, as opposed to doing mundane stuff like taking orders, bringing food when it comes out of the kitchen, etc. Food was remarkably under-seasoned yet fairly expensive.
Sometimes I think I expect too much. But I've stayed at some ridiculously awesome hotels - Intercontinental in Montreal, Soniat House in New Orleans - so I feel comfortable rating this place as just okay.
