| - How did I live here for 2 years and not visit this place?!?
I'm wrapping up my latest stint in Cleveland, and wanted to spend the last few days visiting places I'd wanted to visit when I lived here before, or exploring nooks and crannies as I drive along. My weekends have been spent exploring new restaurants and shops, and having plenty of free time to go off the beaten path as my time permits.
Yesterday was a perfect example. As I headed back towards downtown after running a few errands on the west side, I saw Lakewood Park on my left as I drove down Lake. 'You know what, I never really checked this place out when I lived here before!'
I passed a few baseball fields, a picnic shelter, and several grills and picnic tables as I drove in. There was also a playground and indoor restrooms, both essential for any public park worth its salt.
After parking my car, I headed north towards the lake. It was a warm, foggy noon, adding an almost magic quality to the day. I passed the picturesque gazebo and zig-zagged down to the lakefront walk.
You're missing out if you don't stop by Lakewood Park when you have the time. It affords beautiful views of the lake and the downtown skyline, and there is even a pair of binoculars (the kind that looks like a big silver shield on a lamppost) that you can use to extend your view. Even if the waves are crashing, the tall, sturdy break wall will help to protect you from Lake Erie when it has an attitude.
