| - Oh Golden Nugget... I was expecting much more from you. It was my boyfriend's first time to Las Vegas so I thought, what better way of introducing you to Las Vegas than staying down in Fremont District. I mean, it was the epitome of Las Vegas with all the flashy neon lights, the history, and less "popular" with the young folk so more space to move around and the bus is constantly going to The Strip so I figured, why not stay down here? Well, for the price I paid at booking, I thought it was ok. But then came the resort fee debacle. We checked in, no problem there, but then the agent at the counter told us that we had to put a $50 hold for damages and a resort fee on the way out, saying the balance would be $42. Ok, no big deal, that's normal. Then, what blew my mind and my boyfriend's was they contacted us the next day in our room, stating that the card on file was declining. My boyfriend spoke to the agent, and told him that did not put a hold, but instead started (continually) charging my boyfriend's card to the point where his bank put out a fraud alert causing his account to be come frozen. The agent then told him that the resort fee was actually $92, none of which would have been an issue if they had communicated better when we checked in. What I don't understand is why isn't that just part of my fee when booking???? I get holding a card for damages, and that would be reimbursed if nothing was damaged (which I never deal with because I'm the kind of person who likes to leave things better than I found it). But, having someone who clearly doesn't know what they are doing, charging my boyfriend's card without his knowledge the day AFTER checking in. When my boyfriend went down to clear up the multiple charges, the male agent was flabbergasted at the lack of communication and improper procedures, that had to get the manager involved. It would have been nice if they had gone an extra mile to make it up to us, because charging a card without notifying or getting consent from the consumer is totally NOT ok. That totally put a damper on our impression of the Golden Nugget.
The resort fee was a complete joke by the way... The pool was pretty pathetic, a circular pool with an aquarium in the middle. The water slide was alright, but riddled with kids. I guess that's what you get for staying at a kid friendly place. I don't know if there are non-kid friendly hotels in Vegas, if so, let me know. All the sun chairs squished together so no way of really spreading out. Apparently, the doors open at 8am so you can grab a seat so you and your "squad" can chill together. We ended up going two hours before closing, as we are not fond of being elbow to elbow with strangers.
Don't get me started on the Internet. 2MB???????? WTF???? If you're going to charge your hotel guests a resort fee PER DAY on top of the booking the room, you should go up on the internet speed because that is a total JOKE! OH, and some people don't gamble, some people just want to chill in their room so maybe add a few more entertaining channels as well. One more thing, it would be nice if you could also let guests access all the football games on hotel TV's because your sports book room was completely over crowded, on top of every public area with a tv that a fire marshal would have a heart attack seeing...
The only pluses are that the bed and pillows were comfy, and besides having a wonderful view of the wall, and the D hotel, I did manage to see a bit of the Sierras which was beautiful at sunrise and sunset.
Overall, I will not be staying here ever again. Overpriced for so so rooms, packed and sardine like pool area and a ridiculous resort fee. Unless they change their horrible communication and the quality of everything included in the resort fee. Please train your agents to communicate well, not just some, and if you're going to charge our card, please actually tell that to our face rather than behind our backs then calling us in our room to tell us the card on file is declining.
