THE STORY OF THE $219.00 PILL.....PAID BY THE PATIENT!!!!!! without notice of the cost.
Kind of torn on this one. Medicare requires the closest hospital when taken by ambulance. This is why I went to Spring Valley. I never really had a problem until my January 2016 visit.
Apparently, I had food poisoning and at one time the nurse said the doctor wants you to take this pill. I asked why and she said so you do not throw up. Sounded reasonable. I was not nauseated and no one said I would be billed for a self-administered pill and after I went home I received a surprised bill of $219.00 for one pill. Medicare does not cover what you put in your mouth,. And no one has you sign an agreement you will pay if Medicare does not.
I do remember in the past when I was in the ER and throwing up, I was given a shot (which is not self-administered) and Medicare paid for it. They do have some nice people working there and I believe the care is fine, as long as you do not take anything self-administered.
*****************that is $219.00 FOR ONE PILL (that I did not need) but I believed the doctor.
This is a total ripoff and people should be told in advance what the pill cost is BEFORE being told the doctor wants you to take this. Remember...you can get a shot for nausea which is covered by Medicare.
