| - Chucks day off.
Sara: 3/5
Suk: 4/5
We felt lucky to get into Garde Manger when we called the Sunday morning to ask about reservations that evening and were told, yes, please come at 7:15pm.
We felt less lucky when we showed up at 7:15pm and were told by the hostess, we will be with you in a minute.
That minute morphed into 30 minutes, with nowhere to sit, no offer of water or a beverage, no preview of the menu and no acknowledgement of our presence beyond the first, "hello, do you have a reservation, we will be with you in a minute".
I am an impatient person and the only reason we stuck around that long is because Montreal had an amazing video series of it's history projected against different buildings around old Montreal which we viewed to kill the time. That, and Suk really wanted to eat here. I personally would have been ready to leave 15 minutes in.
We were eventually ushered in and seated at the back bar. Once we were there, we ordered oysters, jerk crab and the braised short ribs.
If you have read any of my previous reviews you know I do not review oysters unless they are off - oysters are oysters and these oysters were great. Thank you ocean and thank you fishermen. No need to thank a particular restaurant for serving the fruits of other people's labour.
The jerk crab was amazeballs. Yum yum yum! What's that? This isn't your own homemade marinade? Maybe Graces? As in available at most grocery stores across the country?
So now, one dish which is actually from CH, short ribs! Tough yet fatty and little seasoning. We left half of it because it was mostly fat.
Fantastic service
