My husband and I booked a couples massage and we were both disappointed with our experience. When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff, given a hot towel for our cold hands, our coats taken and some nice water to sip. Check in was a breeze. Hence the one star. After this it was down hill. The change rooms were noisy, chaotic, like high school drama. The water therapies were old and dingy, in need of a desperate upgrade. There were tons of people but yet only 6 were permitted in the very tiny hot tub. One of the stream rooms was broken so everyone crowded in the other. There were no available chairs in the lounging area. Clearly the place was over capacity. It was noisy, not spa voices like one would expect. People were talking business. It was very difficult to relax. We went up for our scheduled massages. We were last to go in since our masseurs were late. No apologies. Extra time wasted settling in. It did not feel like a couples massage rather two people in a room. My whole massage was weird. It did not feel relaxing, rather a jolted experience. Knots were left in sore areas and areas that shouldn't have been worked on were. He kept talking which was weird. I had a difficult time sleeping that night since I felt misaligned. I actually had to go for another massage the next day to fix the damage. My husbands experience was similar. He was left with a kink in his neck. Obviously the masseurs we had were very inexperienced. The kicker to all this was when we finally made it to the change room at 7:55, we were informed that they close at 8:00? Never once were we informed of this information. Well all 4 showers were occupied and I had oil all over me. Clearly I was in need of a shower because we had dinner reservations. The change room attendants were very forward in reminding us to hurry up. Not the best experience. So if Elmwood Spa does not have the facilities to permit all these guests, then why are they being booked. Not the best customer service. Check out was equally painful but I'll just end it here.
