I grew up less than 3 miles from Brandywine Falls during the 1960's. I had friends who lived in the area that is now the park. We used to hang out and explore the forest and the Brandywine creek. It was always peaceful and serene. Some of the earliest pioneers to this region of Summit County settled near the falls and along Brandywine Road. There were also Native Americans living in the area during the time of the early settlers. The Canal provided a transportation route to other regions on the East coast - this is American History! I am glad that this vast, beautiful area is now a National Park - it could be filled with thousands of homes, shopping centers, and industrial parks built with little regard to the natural beauty. It is now protected. The homes that do exist are from the early days and have some historical significance and several are operated as bed & breakfasts. For all of you expecting the Grand Canyon, or Yellowstone, I feel sorry that you cannot appreciate the simple beauty that nature has given the area, and that the government was wise enough to preserve it.
