  • Just arrived and very impressed with this hotel. Not only do they have a rewards based eco-friendly program, it is just a nice location. Very nice rooms and they have everything I need. Very happy to report, I like this hotel. This is the second time I have stayed in a Sheraton. It is big and offers many amenities. It is also quiet. The gym is great and they have several restaurant options. I put some additional thought into the Green Option offered when checking in. First of all I have to say, "Bravo! Good for trying!". However, I have a small rant. Green Option Offered: If you opt for the green option we will give you 500 additional points per day on your Sheraton Rewards Card. This means you will not receive housekeeping service during your stay. Essentially, the environment would have the greatest benefit since the proprietor does not have to utilize as many resources (water, electricity, gas, etc). I opted in for the Green Option since I was to be working a bit out of my room. It is day two of staying in my room and I think the option may have been a slight impairment in judgment shrouded in good intentions. From my perspective there are four impacted players in this "Green Option" game; the Environment, Customers, Proprietor (Hotel) and Housekeepers. From my perspective it seems to have inequitable impact to each to each party. The Housekeepers seem to be impacted negatively. Inevitably their hours would be cut under the Green Option. When they do work, they will be cleaning more including multiple days of garbage and an increased quantity of laundry. Further there is an expectation they stay within timeframes. So they have more work in a truncated time period with less opportunity for tips. There has to be another way to go green that does not impact the staff so significantly. I sincerely hope the Housekeeping Team was included in making this decision to implement the Green Option. As the Customer, I have received the equivalent of $10.00 in points. The points have a potential future value if they are utilized. For this stipend I have the benefit of knowing there was a temporary reduction in my carbon footprint by reusing the same towel, exhausting the coffee and complimentary bottle of water. The Proprietor (Hotel) is able to offer a Green Option to its customers. It is an admirable venture. I respect it. I wish more organizations would identify such options. I know it is impossible to make everyone happy, however, I think there are additional options available which have not been explored. Such as, the Proprietor could offer additional option levels. The Green Option offers the customer no direct opportunity to receive any housekeeping service. I suggest additional options levels (Non-Green, Green 1, Green 2 and Green 3). I am curious, what the savings are to not have housekeeping service on a steady percentage of the occupied rooms. Additionally, does the delayed cleaning negate the impact to the environment? Further will the savings be passed onto the customers? The Environment is the biggest player in game. How much does this program truly impact the environment? There is no way to actually say. It is an immeasurable benefit. The Green Option appears to be a part of a larger Healthy Options program offered by Sheraton. One may even say any reduction in environmental impact is better than none. However, I would argue there is more than one way to evaluate how this task is carried out. If the benefit outweighs the consequences and all parties can win I would be a supporter. When I return home, I will take more time to review and evaluate. If additional information is uncovered, I would be happy to update my review.
