  • My husband Matt B. and I took a weekend trip to Phoenix last month, and somewhere between our house and the pool, Matt realized he'd forgotten to pack swim trunks. We figured out there was a Nordstrom near our hotel and went first thing Saturday morning (10:30AM) so we could spend some time by the pool. If you've been to a Nordstrom built in the last ten years, you've been to this Nordstrom. Nice, spacious, with high-end gear all around. Basically the same layout as the Nordstroms in L.A. The selection of men's swimwear was slimmer than I would've expected in such a hot town, but Matt was able to find a handsome pair of RVCA trunks that wasn't unduly expensive. No line or hassle at either fitting room or register. As long as we were there, I wanted to pick up a few make-up items I'd been meaning to buy over the past month. I sidled up to the NARS counter, where I wanted to get a lipstick that was sold out the last time I was in a Nordstrom and a Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. (Make-up tip from someone with few to offer--this primer is the only thing I've tried that prevents mascara from smudging under my eyes.) I was helped by a sales associate named Christine, who was very friendly and helpful. Nordstrom was having some kind of pre-sale that would get me a big-ass gift set if I spent like $75 or $80 (I forget the amount, but I was almost there with the two things I was already getting). I added a lipliner to my purchase and had her ship my order when the sale went into effect. Ended up spending more than I'd planned, but not by much, and the gift set was pretty legit, with a nice zip make-up bag and probably $30 worth of products. Everything arrived as promised, with a hand-written card and phone call from Christine. I realize this whole thing makes me sound like a sucker, but I was pleased with my haul and Christine was perfectly lovely. There was no high-pressure upsell, and I got more than I paid for. Matt did well with his swim trunks, and I've already used all three of my purchases. I like Nordstrom generally, and would recommend this one if you're looking to shop in Phoenix.
