My review rating is somewhere between eww me thinks not and meh I've experienced better.
The layout is fine. Nothing special although the chair I was sitting in was super rickety, I don't know if it was part of the ambiance or just an old chair. I told the hostess I was waiting for a friend and she attempted to seat me in the rear of the restaurant. I don't know if it was a lack of fore thought or a race thing, but if there are gobs of empty tables and I am waiting for someone, why sit me in the back where she might not be able to find me.
My friend and I just went for appetizers. We ordered spring rolls, won ton soup and cucumber salad.
At no time was there an offer for tea. Most asian restaurants especially with the vibe this place was giving off like it wanted to be reminiscent of the Chinese Restaurants back east where you are loaded up with all the crispy fried noodles you can eat and some smooth black tea. We just had our water refreshed regularly which was nice, but nothing special.
We received the spring rolls assuming that they weren't fried, they were. As a matter of fact all of the appetizers were fried. And the spring rolls were pretty much soaked in oil, maybe they just weren't fried long enough.
The won ton soup was good, The cucumber salad was refreshing, but nothing we ate stood out and said I MUST come back here for this item.
The prices weren't that great either. 6 dollars for the regular sized bowl of won ton soup. and 10 for the large... Its broth, chicken and essentially a piece of pasta.
Maybe if they dropped the prices reconsidered the appetizer offerings I would return but for now I have no plans to frequent SMPP
