  • I had a coupon from DealTicker.ca that was going to expire tomorrow. I paid $18 for 1 months worth of unlimited classes. I usually go to Moksha Yoga Scarborough, but seeing as it is now getting unbearably crowded where you can smell the person next to you's butt... I decided to cash in on my voucher and see what a different yoga studio had to offer. It is located in a quiet plaza on Kennedy, just north of McNicoll. It would be difficult to find at night. I arrived at 6:30PM for the 7PM class because I didn't know what the crowds were like and I always like to get a spot in front of the mirror to allow me to see my posture and make adjustments as necessary. And okay... maybe I like seeing my reflection too! Ya got me! Mary-Ann was the instructor tonight. Although she gave good verbal guidance, she did not walk around to adjust anyone's posture. I also found that she did not transition from pose to pose very smoothly. And mid-class, I saw a girl veer sideways before crashing onto the floor. I was happy to see that Hot Yoga Wellness was not as crowded, and everyone was able to sprawl out quite comfortably. But that's about the only pro that I noted from this studio. The cons are plentiful. They have very very miniscule-sized lockers that are good for stowing away valuable possessions and hooks and shelves for you to stow your bags in the changeroom. The floors of the studio are clearly not made for yoga. You can already tell that the floors are starting to corrode as they are becoming uneven in some spots due to the extreme heat. They use the standard "wood looking" sheet that covers the floors. As a result, your feet stick to the floor and it creates a lot of noise as people trickle in. The door to enter the studio is also not yoga-friendly as it is not a push door and is basically like a French door of a residential property, so when people come in and out, it is very noisy and disruptive, which makes it hard to get into your savasana. Also, there are very few options, if any at all, for the full 90 minute classes in the evenings. A full hot yoga class is supposed to be the full 90 minutes. They have predominantly the 60 minute classes only. I will continue coming until my 1 month unlimited classes are up, but will probably not be a returning customer. They also use makeshift floor heaters to provide the heat in the room.
