| - What a cool spot! Accompanied my 9 year old son on a field trip in March 2016. Going in, one must remember that this is a rescue for mostly non-household animals. This sanctuary is run on DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS. Even the animal housing areas are built and donated.
With that said, it's amazing what a few people can do because they are passionate about animals. In the few hours we were there, we learned so much about animals and how they survive and live, plus quirky facts. We had a tour guide who was very knowledgeable. You could see that she was passionate about the place. She was very patient and understanding as the group consisted of many many 8-9 year olds who were really excited.
The children saw an array of desert tortoise, birds, goats, llama, ostrich (and ostrich eggs!), peacock, hens, turkeys, ducks, pigs, a deer, a bull. After walking the 4 acres, they had an area where they could pet some of the goats. They worked up an appetite and enjoyed their packed lunches at the outdoor amphitheater. But WARNING: there are goats aplenty roaming and around, and they WILL steal your lunch items! that experience excited the children and they didnt mind the goats running off with their snacks.
Tips: Bring hats, sunscreen and water in the warmer months. Bring a lunch but be OK with the roaming goats. Awesome place for kids!
