| - I don't feel a particular loyalty to Windstream, but I have been with them since their inception (2006?). I live in south Charlotte, and have them for DSL internet (enhanced one level up to, supposedly, help with streaming) and landline phone service (excellent). Both services have been consistently reliable. I "feed" a desktop computer, two laptops, and three Roku (obviously not all at the same time). One thing that has helped a good deal with streaming from the modem (upstairs) to a TV downstairs is a plug-in Wi-Fi extender ($70-80) downstairs.
I DO use an old Comtrend NexusLink 3100u modem/router that I purchased from Windstream years ago. You can only rent from them now, so I can't vouch for the quality of their newer model(s).
I did waste an enormous amount of time researching and purchasing, from a third party, a new modem/router that Windstream TOLD me would communicate with their equipment. Despite concerted efforts, it never did. Windstream was gracious about it when I had to return the modem, and paid my shipping costs. Probably best to use their proprietary programmed modem.
Like with any company, if you've got a problem, keep escalating until you get someone who can help you. Also, you can push them (a little) to be price competitive. They don't want to lose you to Spectrum.
