I have been to several children's museums, aquiriums, and play centers across this great country. I have seen the best thier is to offer and I would have to say that Madison's museum fell extremely short in my opinion. For as great of a state as we are, for having the great minds of the UW Campus nearby, for as much culture and history that Madison has to offer, for as much money and contributions that this city could raise, for being a huge tourist area, for having the state's capital and for as much architectural history we claim with the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings nearby this was extremely underwhelming. So they had a few animals upstairs on the roof and a coloring station for kids to draw and play with legos.... Not very impressing! The coolest thing they offered was some jungle gym playground toys and slides. Oh and a human hamster wheel that turns energy into light.
This is a type of place we send our children and youth to visit to encourage the use of their imaginations and creativity. I left feeling we have failed our children yet again. Poorly set-up, poorly designed, and not much to do for ages 5 and up.
Hands on items are lacking! Maybe its the space of the building? Or maybe it was their budget? Maybe I'm wrong for saying anything at all except that I expected more. Always expecting the most from our leaders of WISCONSIN. We are a trend setting state! We let our kids down and need to rethink and update immediately.
