  • So I went into my local Safeway store to buy some items to make a new salad recipe. My mistake was that when I left the store I forgot a bag of items on the cashiers checkout belt. That is my fault in the first place I admit. I realized the bag was missing as soon as I got into my apartment which is just across the street. I immediately called the store and they said they had my bag and would hold it for me as I told them I would walk back to get it right away. They said it would be at the customer service counter. The first thing that got me upset was that the cashier should have stopped me and told me I had forgotten the bag - but he didn't. He surely saw it sitting right in front of him as he started helping the next customer. So now I had to walk back in 110 degree heat to get the bag. When I got to the store the agent at the customer service center said they had already put the items back. Excuse me!!! Those items were not for sale as I had already purchased them - and they knew I was coming back right away! Now I had to go shop for all the items over again and I hadn't brought either the recipe or the receipt so I had no idea what I was supposed to be buying. Then when I attempted to leave the store they stopped me at security and asked for the receipt (which I didn't have because why would I need it since they were supposed to be holding the items for me). I asked for the assistant manager who was the one at the customer service center when I first returned to the store and of course he was no longer in the store. Now the manager came into the picture. I explained to him what had happened and I said that this whole process was ridiculous. I said the original cashier should have stopped me as a common courtesy as I was leaving the store and this whole issue could have been avoided. I said the checkout guy was an idiot for not saying something (again my fault) but the manager said that calling him an idiot was a far kinder word than the one he was thinking about calling me. I said I expected a higher level of service since the prices are higher than other stores in the neighborhood and he told me I should start shopping at Sprouts from now on and not to come back to his store. I promptly handed him my rewards card and will NEVER go back to ANY safeway store. I can be insulted and raped in the parking lot I don't need to put up with it in the store.
