The Chandelier is a three story bar in the Cosmopolitan. I came here specifically to try the verbena cocktail which is their specialty cocktail which isn't on the menu. I thought it was available only on the second level since I'd heard each level has a specialty cocktail, but we walked up to the bar on the first level and were able to get it there. The bartender told me to chew the flower for 10 seconds and make sure that it was in contact with both sides of my mouth then take a sip of the drink. I should have known better when the drink came with instructions. We took our drinks and settled at a table to relax and people watch. I started by chewing the flower for about ten seconds, but shortly after, my mouth felt as if it was electrified and numb all at once. I felt like I was choking and could not catch my breath. Sipping the drink only intensified the feeling. Seriously, something bad was happening to me. My friend rushed to the bar to get a bottle of water, but water had no different effect than the cocktail. This continued for what felt like a long time, but my friend said I wasn't "right" for about 15 minutes. I don't know why I had such an extreme reaction to the flower. We googled it and found out it's a Szechuan button. Reading is fundamental...if done beforehand! Anyway, I survived and will never have this cocktail again. Proceed with caution. Besides being debilitated, the bar itself was nice.
