| - I would not recommend this dentist for anything aside from a simple cleaning!
I came from Michigan with a set of X-rays done by a fantastic dentist named Dr. Kolb who told me I had 2 cavities. Alas, I could not get them filled before I had to move to Pittsburgh so I jumped on Yelp to look for a dentist with good reviews. Not realizing that just about everything in town has about 2 or 3 more stars on Yelp than they deserve (see also: Lulu's Noodles), I found Dr. Horan and decided to give him a try after reading the good reviews (apparently from people who aren't very discerning regarding their medical care).
He didn't even bother to take his own x-rays (HUGE RED FLAG!) and after a glance at my x-rays from my dentist in Michigan, Dr. Horan told me that I only had one cavity. I asked him if he was sure, because my very very brilliant and frankly, god-like dentist in Michigan said I had 2, but Dr. Horan assured me that I only had one, so I got it filled. I had an appointment again 6 months later where he had another chance to take x-rays like he should have as well as check on the alleged second cavity, but again, he didn't bother.
Almost a year later, the tooth with the 'alleged cavity' is killing me so I decided to go to a non-quack who I found listed the top 25 dentists in Pittsburgh Magazine. He took x-rays (GOOD SIGN, NORMAL STANDARD OF CARE) and lo and behold, I had a cavity, right where my Michigan dentist had said I had had one all along. Missed twice by Dr. Horan.
So I don't know if this was initially a case of laziness/inattentiveness or just not being very good at reading x-rays, but the end result is the same. I would instead recommend Dr. Gower for a more careful exam and attentiveness to your concerns.
