| - This review is a long time in coming, as I've been a Nello's customer for years. As we moved close to this location, we started gravitating to this store.
First of all, Nello's is one of the best pizza joints in the Valley. Great food, and we've never had a complaint over any item on the menu. Prices are reasonable, consistent quality of food.
What sets this location apart negatively is the poor service. On our two last visits here, we've had some of the oddest customer service we've ever seen.
Night 1: A month or so ago, on a weeknight, we decided to stop by Nello's to grab a pizza at the bar and have a few beers. What "greeted" us was an indifferent bartender, a bunch of kids (employees) with apparently nothing to do, jawing away and not performing any work, including asking us if we wanted a menu. Not my problem, I figured, as I wasn't the one paying an overstaffed restaurant on a night with maybe five tables occupied.
What was more interesting was the fact that apparently the MANAGER of the store was drinking at the bar and participating in all this small talk when he should have either sent some of these redundant servers home or finding something for them to do. As it was, he didn't seem to care.
We were finally served after requesting an employee for a menu, had a great meal, and went home.
Night 2: Recent Sunday night, pretty much the same overstaffing situation, this time with no management in sight. Another indifferent bartender who apparently thought chatting it up with the other seven or eight idle employees was more important than paying attention to the bar. This time, we had a young woman, another staff member, who hung out at the register and did zero during the hour and a half we were there.
Again, another good pizza.
The point of all this is that corporate management needs to start paying attention to this store. It makes no sense to overstaff a restaurant on slow nights, and even if they think it's good business sense, there are a ton of things that need to be done when business is slow. Cleaning, for one.
Nello's has some of the best food around. But this store needs some management guidance in the worst way. I can't see how you turn a profit by overspending in staffing when you don't need to, nor utilize staff correctly. This location needs some serious scrutiny.
