  • This is my first gendered review, so bear (or bare) with me. Or call me sexist. Whichever. But, if we're being honest for a moment, there are coffee houses for women, and there are coffee houses for the rest of us, meaning everyone. To be clear, this place is a-ok, a solid 3stars for those testosterone-laden amongst us. It's 4-stars for those more on the estro-level. So what elements cater to the fairer sex? --- Super sweet everythings on the menu. --- My cold brew coffee with cinnamon and honey was all honey. See: sweet. Where's the coffee? --- Endless teenie-bopper songs crooning about love, like a middle school dance. --- The tall beakers used for in-house drinks, while clever and enjoyable and fitting of the design of the place, they felt fragile, requiring a dainty grasp, and concluding with a gentle sip from a straw. Felt like I did the time I tried playing a flute in high school band. It's not a hearty mug, and that's ok! But it's also not, you know, rugged. It's more, if I may, phallic. --- Speaking of phallic, the only food item available are waffle sticks. These were yum. And again, sweet. Sweet is your only choice here. So when you take that waffle stick, and then dip it in a dipping sauce, and then raise it to your lips. Well, you follow me and the visual. I broke my waffle stick apart like one does a banana if concerned about that kind of thing. If you've read this far and you're all, "Kevin L., don't be such a di*k!"...it's ok. I admit, it's true. But I'm right. I was in Jozo for two hours. I'm in touch with my feminine side on occasion, but this was a bit much. There was only one other dude there. About 25 women and girls rolled through, though, and many were east Asian, fulfilling the stereotype. I'm not making this up or being sexist or racist, I swear. You'll see. The design caters to them, and they flock. That's great! Solid business model. And that's fine. If that's for you, you will love this cozy little sweet spot. And on that note, 3-stars also for being a bit tight (*cough*) in there, with not much seating for more than say 17 people in a small space. With most people coming in pairs or more, it's difficult to find privacy of any sort. Cheers, lady cafe! Your waffles were yum, the space is designed to maximize cute, and you know your customer base. Success.
