  • Update: after that employee was no longer working here, I revisited and was pleasantly surprised that the care seemed better and the workers were more attentive. I used to not have much of an opinion on this scales and tails location, but recently, I have decided to not come back. About a month ago, my boyfriend and I stopped in on a Thursday and saw a lovely female dumeril's boa there. We asked to see her and handled her. We left, but my boyfriend went back the next day to inquire about putting a payment on her (without my knowledge, was a surprise for me). He was told by Ryan, one of the employees, that there was a woman who had put her on a 24hr hold which ended at 1:00pm the next day and if she didn't come purchase it by then, he would give my boyfriend a call. The next day, a little after 1:00pm, my boyfriend hadn't received a call so he decided to call the store. Stephen, another employee, answered the phone, and said that the woman had never come to purchase her. So my boyfriend asked to put her on a 24hr hold for us. Stephen said he would, but acted very nonchalant about it. So about an hour or two after that, my boyfriend called back and confirmed that she was on hold for us, and even told Stephen that we would be down there the next morning to purchase her in full, and take her home. Stephen said that would be great, and assured us that she was on hold for us. We went out that day and bought all the supplies and an expensive enclosure specifically for her. The next morning, as we said we would, we came down to the store right as it opened and saw that there was a tag on the dumeril's cage that said "sold". We asked what that was about, and Stephen said that "the lady came back and purchased her". Obviously we were upset because we had confirmed twice that she was on hold for us, yet that clearly didn't matter to Stephen. When we asked why that could have happened, Stephen said that it was okay because the lady was going to bring in her other dumeril's boa that she has and sell it to the store, and that was the solution to the issue of both of us wanting the snake. He also said that he could give her our number so that we could buy the dumeril's she didn't want anymore off of her. That infuriated me, because he spoke to this woman about us, told her that we were going to buy the snake, and thought it was okay that we could just settle for this lady's reject dumeril's. We won't be going back there. Scales and Tails as a whole is not a bad corporation, but I refuse to have to get such horrible customer service from that one employee. I much prefer the Scales and Tails on Charleston, and if anyone is reading this deciding whether or not to go to this store, save your sanity and go to the one on Charleston.
