+ Quiet oasis @ Kensington Market to sit & do some work
I was at Kensington Market for a quick stroll and to my delight I found Juice Department just steps away from where I got off the bus @ Spadina. I popped in looking for a cold, healthy smoothie and that's exactly what I got.
They keep chunks of pre-cut fruit and giant leaves of kale in large tupperware containers in the refrigerators under the counters. I got the VICTORY smoothie, which had avocado, kale, pineapple, banana, & mango juice. I watched googly-eyed as the juice bar girl fed entire leaves of kale, stalk and all, into the blender. I was worried that I might get some chunky bits of fibery stalk in my drink, which would be awful. Luckily they've got superman blenders that blended everything into smithereens. My drink came out chlorophyll-green and was just the slightest bit sweet and tasted amazing.
I got my drink to go, but it looks like there is some quiet, clean and well-lit work space (group tables) inside where you can get some work or studying done.
Seems this place just opened a few months ago, but they've got a great location for anyone stopping by Kensington Market. Smoothies are on the expensive side, around $5-7 each - makes for a nice healthy treat once in a while.
