| - I was excited to check out this place after reading all the great reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to all the hype. At least not for me. My friend and I went there for lunch. The place was about 1/2 full and we were promptly seated. First off, the tables on both sides were still not cleared -- the dishes were gone, but there were still dirty glasses and napkins. Not a good first impression.
We ordered their lunch specials that looked like a good deal -- $11.50 includes a spring roll (more of a salad roll than egg roll), a choice of papaya salad or chicken satay, a choice of about 6 (?) entrees, and a crispy asian banana dessert. The spring roll was fresh and the accompanying dipping sauce yummy. I haven't had many papaya salads in my life, so I'm not a good judge as to whether the one at Latitude was good or not. But on a strictly taste perspective, it was pretty good. The chicken satay was a winner. 2 small skewers of white meat chicken w/ peanut sauce. My friend and I were trying to figure out how they manage to make a chicken satay with white meat as typically one uses dark meat w/ lots of fat to keep the meat from drying out. But the satay was tender and moist!
My friend had the pad thai -- she said it was too sweet AND too salty. She had to ask for extra bean sprouts to mix into the pad thai to make it edible. I had the Pad Kee Mao. While it was flavorful, it was really quite hot (spicy). Now I grew up in SE Asia eating lots of super hot curries, and hot stuff in general, so when I said hot, I mean HOT.
The dessert was a winner -- basically a banana and coconut fried eggroll with (what tastes like) a green pandan sauce.
Overall, the presentation was nice, portions were decent. But the food was kind of hit and miss.
