| - I'm not the only one who thinks Pittsburgh's obsession with Pamela's is strange.
It's an extremely limited diner plus crepes. Please stop calling them "hotcakes". They are not hotcakes, they are large delicious crepes. It harkens back to a time when people wouldn't eat that fancy shit. So, "hotcakes". Embaressing.
Other than that it's a decent diner. Cash only and it's basically exclusively breakfast. I think they close at one or two. The menu, after the crepes, is an extremely limited selection of breakfast norms and some salads and some wraps for some reason.
There is a wait most weekends. The service is service. Apperently servers don't have sections and split tips? It's crowded and noisy even on weekdays. I'll call the ambiance "Pittsburgh Excited". Which is fine. But it's not nearly as good as "I Could Read A Paper".
I don't have anything against Pamela's, really. Its the mystic I have a problem with, it's a three star (or maybe four star becuase delicious crepes) diner with a five star reputation.
I don't think Pittsburghers really know what a diner should be like. Eat and Park, Pamela's and Ritters have ruined your concept of a diner. Eat and Park is a place for crazy people with overweight children and Ritter's, much like AA, is a an event for drunks except without the alcohol (thumbs down), so Pamela's with their hotcrepes gets all the praise.
Crepecakes are delicious, but please, stop treating it like the prize of pittsburgh, it's embarrassing.
