| - I'm pretty new to yoga. I've done pilates before (at the YMCA) so that doesn't really count. I can say I had a relative advantage for someone new to yoga because I am fairly flexible. Although I can't bend like pretzel, I can touch my toes, wrap my arms behind me, the bare minimum to be called remotely flexible.
I still found Bheda Yoga quite challenging since there was a lot of strength involved with the poses, plus it's 40 degrees Celsius. It sounds ridiculous, but once you get used to it, it doesn't seem so hot. (I had this strange imagery that hot yoga was people slipping everywhere on hardwood floors that was drenched with sweat..thankfully nothing like that happened, but do bring a towel)
I would recommend going to the 1 hr classes before jumping into the 1.5hr classes to let your muscles ease into it. Also, they are strict about arriving before class because during class, they lock the doors (the receptionist is the instructor, so it's safety precautions as well as providing distraction-free classes) I full fledge agree with this notion, even though i had suffered standing outside being 3 minutes late, staring inside like a hopeless pup.
I've been to 4 classes - had 3 teachers
Marni : the owner/founder of this joint. Very inspiring, funny and personable (I've had to prevent myself from bursting in laughter a couple times, as a result, making this weird snore/chuckling sound) and genuinely wants you to push your limits. She mainly does 1.5hrs and covers a huge span of positions. Her classes are usually more crowded (esp 5:00/7:00 sessions after work)
Connie : Very thorough with her instructions, although she speaks quite fast, if you catch it all, very thought-out instructions. She is also acute to your positions and fixes your posture whenever possible.
Stephanie : Very encouraging, friendly and charismatic. Those type of people where when you speak to them, it's like you've been friends all along. She'll motivate you along the way and encourage you to push your capabilities.
All in all, it's clean, intimate and challenging without being forceful. I'm hooked!
