  • This summer I am going to be a bridesmaid at one of my best friends' wedding. There are three other girls in the wedding party and we started browsing for bridesmaids dresses last fall. After an overwhelming drop in visit to another store in the city, we decided we needed an appointment and we wanted to check out Frocks. Their store front faces McLeod Trail and the window displays always looked so pretty in an otherwise rundown looking block. We made an appointment at Frocks last November, and I was very impressed by the level of service. We were alone in the store and had the undivided attention of the consultant. (In our case, I think this was the owner?) She was very knowledgeable about the inventory and able to give us some great suggestions. We were torn between a few different styles (three girls cannot agree on one dress!) and when the consultant told us she was getting more styles in January, we decided to wait and come back to see the new dresses. We went back for a second appointment in February. I guess this is a much busier time of year for the store, with appointments both for grads and summer weddings. The appointment ahead of us was a group of 5 or 6 high school girls with their moms and they were running late, so the store was pretty crowded. The girls ended up staying for at least 20 minutes into our 60 minute appointment, because they were refusing to believe they needed a size 8. The consultants handled this situation much better than I would have... We ended up picking dresses during this visit, but we left feeling a little rushed and less impressed than during our first appointment. We didn't actually place the order for the dresses during our February appointment. We got fitted and our sizes got filed, but we needed to discuss with an out-of-town bridesmaid before we could place the order. About a week later we were ready to order, so we tried phoning to give our payment details. Three weeks later we'd left at least 6 phone messages, and still hadn't heard about confirming the order. It was not until we sent an email telling them we were getting anxious and planning to order the dresses from somewhere else that we finally got a response. If we had chosen dresses and ordered them during our first visit in November, I would have given Frocks a 5 star rating. The experience of our hectic February appointment and the ordering delay was more of a 2 star experience. But considering their excellent selection of contemporary dresses, I am happy to give an overall rating of 4 stars. Definitely recommend making an appointment in the fall to avoid the spring rush!
