| - I'll admit I'm biased about this grocery chain. Only store I went to when I was in Oregon and was happy to see them come to Phoenix. And this store doesn't disappoint, same great prices (one of the people working there said that the chain is based on a six percent net profit; great business model!), industrious, HELPFUL and friendly workers (and they don't even TRAIN them to be friendly, like that stupidly high-priced Safeway does), excellent produce and bulk foods, cheap spices, even have a reasonably-priced deli. For example, they sell Reser's potato salad for $1.98/lb., everyday price. All the other major stores want $5-$6/lb. What a rip! The deli also makes excellent "Chinese" dishes (Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken), packs them in a two piece, heavy plastic container (in which you can microwave them) and sells them for a VERY reasonable price: you can get a nice amount for under $3. When oysters are in season all the other stores sell them for $4-$5/pint. WinCo sells them for about $2.50. They sell goat meat in their frozen meats. A Cornish game hen costs about $2.75. They sell a large round loaf (I call it a "cannonball" loaf) of sourdough bread for $2.98. And it's remarkably good sourdough. They have their own distribution center in the area now (unlike all the others except Fry's) so they're in great shape to "conquer" the area, as they have the Northwest. Yes, the no credit card thing is annoying. But it comes down to that 6% profit thing and it's not annoying enough to keep me away. Bagging your own groceries? BFD! If you are so lazy that you can't bag groceries to save yourself major money you deserve what you get. More power to WinCo! I wish them all of the best luck.
