It's true that the staff do not appear to be very friendly. I wasn't offered even a fraction of a smile when the cashier was taking my order and she looked so bored making my latte that I almost felt bad for ordering. I can't understand why anyone would choose to have such a scowl, especially while working in a customer-driven position. But The staff get quite chatty with some people. So, it could just be that this cafe takes a little time to warm up to, so to speak.
And the cafe has a great atmosphere. It was about 2pm on a weekday when I visited and almost all the tables were taken up with people working or meeting with friends. Weeds is definitely a neighbourhood meeting spot.
I enjoyed a lovely, larger than standard croissant with sliced, roasted almonds, a sprinkling of powdered sugar and a delicious marzipan filling. This is not something I have seen offered at any other cafe I've been to, so I was quite delighted with my treat.
