| - You know what you get when you shop at big box pet stores rather than independent? Pimply, texting teenagers who could give two craps about your pet.
What I found here was incompetent teens with no knowledge of dog foods. But, they were nice, responsive and they loved my pup--which is a hell-of-a-lot more than I can say for the Steelyard Pet Co.
Anyways, I came in here after I took dog, Archie, to the Lakewood Animal Hospital for his yearly shots. The vet recommended a kind of dental health kibble that was a larger size and I could give my dog as snacks/rewards without the calories of typical treats. Smart! So, I stopped by my favorite, local pet store in Lakewood with no luck, and since I refuse to subject myself to the uncaring, oblivious and straight-horrible customer service of Pet Co, I decided to give Pet Supplies Plus a try.
I walked in and was almost immediately approached to see if I needed help--a great sign! Especially since when I've visited the Steelyard Pet Co, I've just wandered around for hours looking for any sort of help or advice with absolutely no luck. Once I explained what I was looking for, I received a blank stare and knew it wasn't promising. She then fetched two other clueless associates to help look for this kibble and guess who ended finding it? Moi. Yup, little ol' me. Sigh...
I did find the products to be over-priced, but no more than Pet Co. Unfortunately, most pet supply manufacturers and retail stores know that owners will accept these prices and pay 'em to make their pets happy. Tragic, I know, but I fall for it too. Even the independent shops have no choice but to deal with these prices. But, since they usually know what they're talking about and give you useful pet advice, it's worth the pricetag.
What really pisses me off at places like Pet Co and Pet Supplies Plus is that you don't get that great advice and service of an indie shop, yet you're still paying the premium prices. Is it really that difficult to hire knowledgeable tweens or at least train them appropriately? Wambulance! I'm over it.
