You walk in to a typical downtown Glendale storefront and see the expected assortment of "vintage" furnishings up front. But walk to the back and make a selection from nearly a dozen different kinds of oatmeal cookies on display. Each is about the size and shape of a scoop of ice cream. And the varieties made with chocolate practically ooze with deliciously almost gooey dark chocolate chunks. The peanut butter version is perhaps the best in breed, and I'm an old expert home baker who has sampled oatmeal cookies from coast to coast.
