I'm not 100% sure what the hype is about. The Roasting Company kind of falls under the "comfort food" category for me, but I've certainly had better comfort food in Charlotte. Admittedly, I didn't actually order any chicken. My pulled pork was pretty bland, even with the Jaco sauce on it. I had a side of mac and cheese, which was on par with any other mac and cheese out there. The highlight of my meal was the collard greens - well seasoned and tender.
My group and I had a hard time finding a clean table. The restrooms were also a little dingy. I realize this is not an upscale establishment, but the place felt a bit grimy.
While my experience was fairly mediocre, I can definitely see this being a great place to get drunk food in the middle of the night.
