| - I stayed by myself at the Graduate for three nights in early November 2017. I was in Madison simply to look at the place that is the home of the university where I once turned down a so-called "free ride" in graduate school in favor of another one at a different university
I very much liked the academic-style ambience of the hotel, and the clever intermixing of a good place to stay along with the academic memorabilia.
My room was spotless, and it came with all of the amenities one would expect, and more. Some people gripe about the noise in the hotel from nearby frat houses, but I didn't hear any, and I was there over a Friday and Saturday night. Furthermore, what do people expect when they book a hotel near frat row? The atmosphere of an old folks' home?
The staff was excellent, from the check in crew to the cleaning staff to whom I could only call the concierge. The views of the Capitol building are spectacular from the hotel, and it's only a hop, skip, and jump to get there. The food was superior, particularly the breakfast, and was very reasonable in cost.
My visit convinced me that I had made the right choice in where I had gone on for my PhD, since I didn't like the political atmosphere in the city. It reminded me of a freezing-cold place trying to imitate Boulder. In any event, though, I'd recommend the HOTEL in a heartbeat to anybody who happened to be going to Madison on business or otherwise.
