| - Came here by searching Yelp. Poured over the reviews and decided that this place was going to be my cheat meal. So the next day we drove over to some strip mall.
My boyfriend and I sat down. Nice big place. Lots of tables, photos of Japan, kinda dark for ambiance.
For starters we ordered the pork belly buns and a couple of beers. I think one reserve is if a place is going to be semi-gastropub with classy burgers and some microbrews, then THE WAITER SHOULD BE ABLE TO EDUCATE US ABOUT THE BEER. I asked him how the honey wheat was and he said it was from some company and I said, "But yeah, how does it taste" and luckily my boyfriend had compared it to another beer. The waiter clearly stammered, but I'm a dick because he and I are brewers and we just wanted to see what his view was.
Anyway, the steamed buns came. There was pork belly, a bit of cilantro and scallion, a small slice or radish and quail egg. I loved it! If I can't go to Momofuku, I'll settle for this. Honestly, the egg was totally insignificant and I could have done without it. It's already rich from the pork belly. The belly was was tasty. Very tender and melted in my mouth!
After I ordered the Kiki's Burger with Truffle Parmesan Fries. On man, enoki mushrooms, Gruyere, onion jam, and bacon? I loved how nothing overpowered anything and I can taste all of its components. The Truffle fries were so decadent as well and I loved how you got the whole cone. There are some places that will crumple a ball of paper up so the fries get a lift making it more plentiful. Honestly, I couldn't finish it, but damnit I tried.
Next time I go to Vegas for rock climbing or whatever, I'm so coming back. I wish this place existed in California.
